"I know from experience how much San Diegans care. I’m alive because of the generosity of blood donors."

It's in our blood
What is San Diego Cares ?
On Saturday, December 16, 2017, the San Diego Blood Bank is launching our city's new holiday blood drive at the Town and Country Convention Center.
San Diego Cares: It's in our Blood is the successor to the 38-Year San Diego Chargers Blood Drive. This special event is a daylong blood drive combined with sports-themed games and celebrity athlete panels for the whole family to enjoy. Come celebrate the spirit of San Diegans who care deeply for our community at a time of high need for hospital patients.
Event Date: Saturday, December 16, 2017
Event Time: 8 AM - 5 PM
Event Location: Town & Country Convention Center
500 Hotel Circle North
Free parking for blood donors. However, parking is limited. We recommend carpooling or taking the trolley to Fashion Valley for quick and easy access.
Click here to view the event schedule (panels with celebrity athletes and legends, food trucks, and entertainment for the entire family).
As our way of saying thanks, blood donors receive an event t-shirt, a chance to spin the Cohn Restaurant Group wheel, and VIP access to autographs at San Diego Cares.
When you donate blood at San Diego Cares, you save up to three lives in our community and beyond.
We've teamed up with the San Diego Padres, Gulls, Holiday Bowl, Sockers, Kings, Toreros, SDSU Aztecs, 1904 Football Club, Xolos and the Nascar Foundation to bring you a fun-filled day for the whole family, including panels with sports heroes and exclusive access to meet-and-greets for blood donors.
Ella & Kamila (Both have beta thalassemia major and get blood transfusions every 2 to 3wks.)
Life is very precious and it makes me feel so proud and so good that I can help save a life.
Kathy Blood Donor
Charlene (Blood recipient due to colon cancer)
I feel a sense of duty to experience very little and brief pain for those who are experiencing exponentially more. It makes me feel connected to others and as if I’m contributing to the community.
Theresa Blood Donor
Stefanie (Blood and bone marrow recipient due to aplastic anemia)
If the blood that is running through my veins can help save lives, well then…I’m sharin’.
Mark Blood Donor
Jackson (Blood recipient due to heart condition)
The fact that there is no artificial blood to take the place of or even supplement real blood brings me in to donate blood. 15 minutes of my time to donate a substance that my body produces daily and virtually for free is reason enough for everyone to donate regularly.
Thanh Blood Donor
Aimee (Blood recipient due to aplastic anemia)
My family and I give blood every year on our late son’s birthday to honor his memory. Like Mark Twain said, ‘Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.'
Glenn Blood Donor
Angel (Blood recipient due to leukemia)
Giving blood is my commitment to my community. We all need to pitch in however we can. Plus, it helps to keep me motivated on living a healthier lifestyle!
